Art

Year 8 Coil Pot design

I have included examples of the

fabulous artwork our Key Stage 3

and 4 pupils are producing in their

sketchbooks and constructing in clay.

Year 7 are analysing Sgraffito,

Tonality, Texture, Watercolour,

Pattern, Faberge Eggs, and Japanese

Ceramicist, Takuro Kuwata. They are

also making their amazing ceramic

Pinch Pots. Year 8 pupils are building

their Coil Pots in clay, studying the

artwork of the Minoan Dynasty,

Graphic Design, and Chinese artist,

Ai Weiwei. Year 9 are developing

their Surrealism studies, looking at

Architecture, trainer designs, and

paper engineering. Year 10 Fine

Art pupils are successfully working

in oil paint with beautiful results,

and Art, Craft and Design have just

constructed fabulous cardboard

models for a new De La Warr Pavilion

bandstand.

Please do have a look at our pupils’

wonderful artwork on the St Richard’s

Art Department website here and on

our X (Twitter) site here, both of which

are updated regularly. Thank you and

keep creating!

Geography

Year 7 fieldwork trips

Year 7 geographers have nearly completed their topic about ‘Our World and Local Area’

with a successful virtual field trip to the town centre, and an actual field trip to Galley Hill

View. This field trip enabled pupils to see how we can collect data such as house type, traffic

counts and land use. Presenting data and analysing is a key skill that they also practised.

Our next topic will be Kenya!

Garden Club

All the hard work seems to be paying off as the garden is looking fantastic! All

the weeds have gone from the two main plots and lots of vegetables have been

planted. Pupils are growing potatoes, onions, peas, broad beans and carrots.

Lots of watering required! A massive thank you to Ms Carter, our fantastic

volunteer gardening teacher, for all her time and support.

Year 11 revision

With revision well underway for the upcoming exams, we remind pupils that

we run a revision session after school on Tuesdays and before school on

Wednesday mornings which run through different topics that are coming up.

We are now focused upon Paper 1 and Paper 2. Please note that we will be

running a session which will run through the entire content of Paper 2 in half

term - Thursday, 30th May from 0900-1100. We hope that everyone will attend

and gain the most from this great session which pupils in the past have found

really useful. Please make use of all the support available to you.
